THE CATHOLIC CATECHISM
373. "In God's plan man and woman have the vocation of 'subduing' the earth [Gen 1:28 .] as STEWARDS of God. This sovereignty is not to be an arbitrary and destructive domination. God calls man and woman, made in the image of the Creator 'who loves everything that exists',[Wis 11:24 .] to share in his providence toward other creatures; hence their responsibility for the world God has entrusted to them." "The Catholic tradition insists that we show our respect for the Creator by our stewardship of creation." The steward is a manager, not an owner. In an era of rising consciousness about our physical environment, our tradition is calling us to a sense of moral responsibility for the protection of the environment--croplands, grasslands, woodlands, air, water, minerals and other natural deposits. Stewardship responsibilities also look toward our use of our personal talents, our attention to personal health and our use of personal property. Through our work, each of us is a co-creator in the continuing development of the earth, and our commitment to the common good requires responsible stewardship of the earth and all of its resources. Stewardship builds on the belief that the environment, its resources and all persons are interdependent. At its foundation, stewardship is a moral challenge which " calls us to examine how we use and share the goods of the earth, what we pass on to future generations, and how we live in harmony with God's creation." Fueled cars have a dramatic, negative impact on the environment. The amount of carbon monoxide released can dangerously harm not only the environment, but also to people. If this invention achieves perfection, it will finally be able to take the place of the modern day car. Air pollution will be cut to minimal. Resources of oil would be used for other things that are more important. Not only does the world slow down air pollution but also conserves the precious oil supply. The act of being stewards of the environment is fulfilled in this case of the electric vehicle in the sense that there is a great attempt to end pollution and respect God's creation. It will be possible and a success in managing God's precious land for a much greater period of time since the first step has been taken.
